About Medway Historical Society
The Medway Historical Society was established in 1902.
The original home of the Medway Historical Society was in the basement of the Parish House at 199 Main Street.
The Medway Historical Society building at 223 Main Street was given by Katherine Hixon Cabot upon her death in 1962. Her brother Herbert. N. Hixon was a founding member of the Medway Historical Society. The building was originally a three-car garage that was converted to a small museum by the members of the Society.
In 2018 the Town of Medway acquired the historic Jacob Ide House with funds dedicated to historic preservation. In 2026, after modifications were made to the house to allow for its use as a public museum, the Medway Historical Society has leased the property from the Town to create our Town Museum.
The Medway Historical Society has been receiving donations of items and documents that tell Medway’s story from its original settlers to today. The society is a 501c3 non-profit, all volunteer organization that depends upon memberships, donations and fundraising to support building operations and the acquisition, preservation and sharing of Medway history.
Our Mission
The mission of the Medway Historical Society is to preserve, protect and share the history of Medway, Massachusetts. We accept donations of Medway-related materials. We regularly display Medway items in themed exhibit and we sponsor educational programs of interest to the public.
